How to fix an iPhone 14 Pro Max that’s Not making or receiving calls

If you can’t make or receive calls on your iPhone 14 Pro Max, follow these steps, testing after each step:

1. Check your network coverage

iPhone 14 Pro Max not making or receiving calls can be due to weak network signal. Check your network connection to make sure that you have connectivity. Make sure you see several bars of strength in the status at the top of the screen. If network reception is low/weak, try moving to another location to get better network reception.

2. Turn Airplane Mode On And Off

Turning Airplane Mode on and off again resets your iPhone’s cellular connection, which can potentially fix the problem when iPhone 14 Pro Max won’t make or receive calls.

Open Settings and tap the switch next to Airplane Mode to turn it on. Wait a few seconds, then tap the switch again.

3. Restart Your iPhone

The next step you can take if your iPhone 14 Pro Max won’t make or receive calls is to restart your device. Restarting your iPhone can fix a variety of small issues by allowing of its programs to shut down naturally.

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button.
  2. Release both buttons when slide to power off appears on the screen.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the side button to turn your iPhone back on.
  4. Release the side button when the Apple logo appears.

4. Check Your iPhone Settings

  • Check blocked contacts: Go to Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts to check for if there are any blocked phone numbers on your iPhone.
  • Disable do not disturb: Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and see whether Do Not Disturb is off.
  • Make sure you’ve turned Call Forwarding off: Go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.
  • Turn off silent unknown callers: Go to Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Caller, and turn off the option.

5. Eject And Reinsert The SIM Card

The SIM card connects your iPhone to your carrier’s network. This allows you to make and receive phone calls. Ejecting and reseating the SIM card can help fix a connectivity issue.

Locate the SIM card tray on your iPhone — it’s located on the left side below the volume buttons. Open the SIM card tray by pressing a SIM card ejector tool, straightened-out paperclip, or an earring backing into the hole in the SIM tray. Push the tray back in to reseat the SIM card.

6. Update iOS

iPhone 14 Pro Max not making receiving calls might be due to an iOS bug. Thankfully, Apple routinely releases iOS updates to fix known bugs and occasionally introduce new features. We recommend installing new iOS updates as soon as they become available. To download the latest update, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest iOS update.

7. Check For A Carrier Settings Update

Carrier settings updates can help improve the connection between your iPhone and wireless carrier’s network. It’s a good idea to immediately update the carrier settings when an update becomes available.

You’ll typically receive a pop-up on your iPhone when a carrier settings update is available. Tap Update if you see that notification.

You can manually check for a carrier settings update by going to Settings > General > About. A pop-up will appear here within fifteen seconds if a carrier settings update is available. If no pop-up appears, move onto the next step.

8. Reset Network Settings

Resetting the network settings on your iPhone is a more advanced software troubleshooting step. It resets all of the Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and VPN settings on your iPhone to factory defaults.

This means you’ll have to reenter your Wi-Fi passwords, reconnect your Bluetooth devices, and reconfigure any virtual private networks. It’s a little bit of an inconvenience, but it can fix the problem when iPhone 14 Pro Max won’t make or receive calls.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

9. Contact Your Carrier

If resetting network settings didn’t work, it’s time to contact your wireless carrier. There might be an issue with your account only a customer support representative can resolve.

10. Restore iPhone As New

Restoring your iPhone to factory settings is always the last step to a number of iPhone errors. If your iPhone 14 Pro Max still can’t make or receive calls, try to reset it to factory settings. This will erase all the information and data stored on your device, so it’s essential to back up iPhone data before doing so. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > erase all content and settings.

11. Contact Apple

If all the solutions above fail to fix the iPhone 14 Pro Max not making or receiving calls issue, the problem is most definitely hardware-related. The issue could be due to a faulty antenna or a damaged SIM port. Who knows? You can get support from Apple over the phone, online, or through the mail by visiting Apple’s support website.
