Why is iPhone 12 not connecting to 5G?

There are various reasons why 5G might not be available on your iPhone 12. With 5G connectivity, it’s important to note that this technology is still in its infancy. There are still a lot of bugs to work out, which is why our iPhone’s can still make use of LTE networks. But if you want to try and figure out why 5G isn’t working on your iPhone 12, there are a few steps to attempt.

Fix iPhone 12 5G not working

Here is how to fix your iPhone 12 if 5G is not working:

Is 5G enabled on your iPhone?

Whenever you received your iPhone, the 5G connectivity was enabled out of the box. However, for one reason or another, this could have been turned off accidentally or intentionally. Here’s how you can double check to make sure 5G is turned on:

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Select Cellular.
  3. Tap on Cellular Data Options.
  4. Select Voice & Data.
  5. Make sure that either 5G Auto or 5G On are selected.

If you find your iPhone 12 not picking up 5G after trying the above step, move on to the next solution.

Does Your Carrier Have 5G Coverage?

When 5G isn’t showing up on your iPhone 12, it might mean that 5G towers are too far from your city or hometown or services aren’t offered in your area. In such cases, you will have to determine whether there is 5G coverage in your area or not. You can check your provider’s coverage map to know whether 5G is available in your city/area or not.

Does Your Cell Phone Plan Include 5G?

The next step is to determine whether the alarm about 5G is correct or not. Through your know methods/means, check out the following –

  • 5G data allocated as per your plan
  • Data consumed & Data left over

Most operators in the USA right now don’t offer unlimited 5G data so it might be possible that data is consumed too quickly. So by knowing data consumed & leftover data you can easily know how much data is left over for Internet access through 5G or it might be lowered as per your plan.

Turn Airplane Mode On And Back Off

If your mobile data is giving you trouble then Airplane mode might be helpful in this case. Turn Airplane Mode ON then OFF and then wait for 30 seconds. Here is how to do it –

Go to Settings > Airplane Mode

In a lot of cases, 5G network connectivity issues will be gone.

Eject And Reinsert The SIM Card

5G is nothing but your mobile data and for the Internet through mobile issues may be fixed easily by re-inserting the SIM card. While removing and re-inserting the SIM, please make sure that you have turned OFF your iPhone completely.

Check For A Carrier Settings Update

The next thing to try is to check that your carrier settings are up to date. Go to Settings > General > About. If there is an update loaded to go you will be prompted to install it.

Restart your iPhone

One of the simplest ways to try and get your iPhone back in working condition is to simply restart it. It’s no different from the old tech-support war stories of technicians telling customer to turn it off and turn it back on.

  1. Press and hold one of the Volume Buttons and the Side Button until you see the Power Off Slider on the screen.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple logo.

Check for an iOS update

Make sure your iPhone 12 is running the latest version of iOS.
Apple has been on a rapid pace with new software updates on a seemingly bi-weekly basis. There are bug fixes and additional software features that are added with these updates. And those bug fixes could be just the key for getting your iPhone 12 5G to work again.

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Go to General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
  5. Type in your passcode when prompted.

Reset Network Settings

If all the above doesn’t work, then it’s time to reset the network settings on your iPhone. This can help work out any potential bugs or kinks in the software. Thankfully, you don’t necessarily need to completely reset the iPhone 12 if your 5G isn’t working. Instead, you can reset the Network Settings alone while you continue trying to troubleshoot why 5G isn’t working.

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Go to General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Select Reset Network Settings.
  5. Type in your passcode, when prompted.
  6. Tap Confirm.

Once completed, your iPhone will forget any network settings that you had previously configured. This includes any Wi-Fi networks, or any other data settings that you had created in the Settings app. After performing this task, restart your iPhone, and go back and change the settings that were reset.

Contact Your Wireless Carrier

An additional human interference might help you to resolve the issue of iPhone 12 5G not working. If you have tried everything mentioned above and still there is no solution for you then please call your network provider customer care and a representative will help you.

Here is the customer care number of 4 major carriers in the USA –

  • US Cellular: 611 from registered mobile or 1888-944-9400
  • Sprint: 888-211-4727
  • T-Mobile: 611 from registered mobile number or 1877-746-0909
