You just got the new iPhone 12 and are excited to browse the internet. However, something isn’t working right, and your iPhone 12 is not connecting to internet. In this article, I’ll explain what to do when your iPhone 12 is not connecting to internet.
Sometimes you know that your iPhone 12 is connected to a Wi-Fi network because you see the connected Wi-Fi icon in the top corner of your screen. And you check your Wi-Fi settings and you see the blue checkmark icon next to the Wi-Fi network. Even though it appears that you are connected to Wi-Fi, your iPhone 12 has no connectivity to the Internet.
If you are experiencing this issue, iOS may detect Wi-Fi issues and you may also see an exclamation point and alert messages saying “No Internet Connection”. Furthermore, you may notice an exclamation point appears in the grayed-out Wi-Fi icon. These all may indicate that your iPhone 12 is not connected to Internet. If this is the problem, you may not be able to check your emails, browse the web, or watch Netflix on your iPhone 12.
If you’re having problems connecting your iPhone 12 to internet, you’re not alone. This article provides instructions on what you can do when your iPhone 12 won’t connect to internet. The instructions explain on this article applies to iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max that won’t connect to Internet. Let’s dive in.
Do You Use A Case On Your iPhone?
While it’s unlikely, your case could be preventing your iPhone 12 from connecting to internet. A thick metal case could interfere with your iPhone’s mmWave antenna. Metal can interfere with cell signals, which is even more likely when you consider the mediocre range of the mmWave antenna. If you are experiencing a problem of iPhone 12 not connecting to network, take the case off of your device to receive better signal.
Turn Airplane Mode On And Back Off
Turning on Airplane Mode will disconnect your iPhone from cellular and WiFi networks. Once you turn the feature back off, it’ll allow your iPhone to reconnect to the network, potentially reestablishing an internet connection.
Start the Settings app and tap the switch next to Airplane Mode to turn it on. Tap the switch again to turn it off again.
You can also toggle Airplane Mode on and off in Control Center by sliding down from the top right-hand corner of the screen and tapping the Airplane Mode button.
Check For An iOS Update When Your iPhone 12 Won’t Connect To Internet
iOS updates introduce new features and keep your iPhone running smoothly.
Start the Settings app and go to General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install if a software update is available.
Reset your iPhones network settings
If you’ve tried the above steps but your iPhone 12 still won’t connect to internet, try resetting your iPhone’s network settings. Here’s how:
- Start the Settings app.
- Go to General
- Tap Reset (located near the very bottom of the page
- Select Reset Network Settings. This will require you to re-enter passwords as well as cellular settings and any other information saved in your network settings (for this reason it will require you to enter your iPhone password before confirming).
Your iPhone will power down to complete the reset. You’ll know the reset is complete when your iPhone turns itself back on.

Eject And Reinsert The SIM Card If Your iPhone 12 Won’t Connect To Internet
Ejecting and reinserting your iPhone’s SIM card is another way to reset its connection to your carrier’s network. Here’s how:
- Locate the SIM tray below the volume buttons on your iPhone 12.
- Use a SIM card ejector tool or a straightened paper clip to open the tray.
- Remove the SIM card from your iPhone.
- Push the tray back in to reseat the SIM card.
Check For A Carrier Settings Update If Your iPhone 12 Won’t Connect To Internet
Apple and your wireless carrier regularly push carrier settings updates to maintain and improve your iPhone’s connection to your carrier’s network. Most of the time, you’ll receive a pop-up on your iPhone when a carrier settings update is available.
You can also go to Settings > General > About to manually check for a carrier settings update. Wait on this page for about ten seconds to see if a pop-up appears. If one doesn’t, a carrier settings update is not available.
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Issues
Check Your Wi-Fi Router And Modem If Your iPhone Won’t Connect To Internet
Your router may not be sending a signal to your iPhone, or the iPhone might not be receiving a signal from the modem.
While routers and modems are usually consolidated into one device, they perform different tasks. If you have a separate router and modem, check to make sure both are on and that they’re connected properly.
Try resetting these devices by unplugging and plugging them back in.
For the best results, leave your router or modem off for 10 seconds to ensure that it has completely turned off before switching it back on.
Make sure your iPhone 12 has Wi-Fi connection enabled
If your iPhone 12 is not connecting to internet, make sure you have Wi-Fi switched on in your iPhone’s settings. Sometimes you can inadvertently turn it off. Here’s how:
- Start the Settings app.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Tap on the toggle next to Wi-Fi so it’s green.
- If you already have a preferred Wi-Fi, it should come up automatically. If not, a list of networks should come up. Click on yours.
- If this is the first time signing into it, or if your iPhone is signed out, you will be asked to enter your password. When there is a check next to your Wi-Fi and it’s showing up below your Wi-Fi toggle, you’re hooked up to the Wi-Fi coming from your router.
Note, however, that if your modem or router is not functioning correctly, your iPhone 12 might show “No Internet Connection” or “Unable to join network.” In this case, you should reset your router or modem by following the steps above.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network on your iPhone
If your iPhone 12 still won’t connect to internet, visit another place with Wi-Fi (office, coffee shop, or somewhere similar) and try to log in there. If your iPhone 12 can connect to a different Wi-Fi network, the issue is with your router, modem, or service provider.
Contact Your Wireless Carrier Or Apple
It’s time to contact your wireless carrier or Apple if your iPhone 12 is not connecting to internet. In most cases, your wireless carrier and Apple will point the finger at each other when connectivity issues arise.
Since we can’t be certain which party will be able to help you fix the problem, we recommend by starting with whichever one is more convenient for you. Be sure to make a genius Bar reservation first if you plan on taking your iPhone 12 into your nearest Apple Store.
